Gram Lorraine Children's Christmas Program-Named in honor of the quintessential gramdma, Lorraine Crouse, who died far too soon in an avoidable accident, this program provides between 800 and 1000 area children with a minimum of four items of clothing in their favorite colors, new winter coats, sneakers or boots, and a toy, book or game of choice. Sponsors, which include individuals, churches (Universalist in Little Falls), businesses (Lexington and Feldmeiers), organizations (Frankfort Kiwanis;Herkimer Lions Club), spend $80-$100 contributing in the process an estimated $100,000 to the local economy (over $2 million since the program's inception as the Adopt-A-Child Program in 1981). Participating schools include Benton Hall Academy, Poland Elementary, Fisher Elementary (Mohawk), Barringer Rd. Elementary(Ilion), Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary, Mt. Markham Elementary, Hogue Elementary (Ft. Plain), Owen D. Young Elementary, BOCES Migrant Worker Program and the ARC (Herkimer). The vounteer coordinators include Kay Lenarcic, Betsy Briggs, Karen Rankins, Barb Horwald, Barb Brinck, Julie Metz, Mary Kline, Julie Crouse, Lucille Hand, Marissa Winkler, and Jackie Lewis.
