The Cookie Corps was created in 2009 to honor the memory of Fallen Star Army Cpl. Michael Mayne from Burlington Flats, N.Y. who was KIA in Iraq on 2/23/09. It is comprised of volunteers from throughout the Mohawk Valley. Each month they are assigned to provide one of the following items; snacks or beverages or toiletries which are delivered to Syracuse's Hancock Airport where the Marine Cpl. Gregory Harris Military Courtesy Room is located. Cpl. Harris, from the Syracuse area, was captured during the war and remains unaccounted for. The Courtesy Room is equipped with TVs, recliners, wi-fi access, computers, a microwave, etc. To date over 130,000 servicemen and women have made use of its accommodations. The room provides them with a stopover site while they're in transit. It's staffed by volunteers, many of whom are veterans. In the words of PR Coordinator Mary Ann Reitano - "The support of the Cookie Corps has been invaluable." This service is coordinated by HCHC Director Laura Hailston.
